Students for a Just and Stable Future, in conjunction with the Better Future Project and 350.org, are launching the Fossil Fuel Divestment Campaign across universities all over the state. Harvard, Brandeis, MIT, Tufts, and WPI all have active Divestment Campaigns targeting their school’s endowments. 350.org and founder Bill McKibben are launching a nationwide Divestment tour across the country calling for institutions of all kinds to take their money out of fossil fuel companies.
Students, faculty, and staff on the SJSF campuses will be targeted as early adopters of the divestment tactic to combat the fossil fuel industry.
Publicly traded companies like Exxon, Arch Coal, Halliburton, and others need widespread support in financial markets to survive. Divesting pulls the plug on their bank accounts and forces them out of the market.
